  • Tim Kaine, Mike Pence take top billing tonight

    Boston Herald - 10/04/2016

Mike Pence and Tim Kaine will face the difficult balancing act of defending two of the most unpopular and detested nominees in recent memory — while still preserving their own political future in the event of a loss in November — during the only vice presidential debate, tonight in Virginia.

“Vice presidential debates are almost always about legacy as well as the immediate race,” said Alan Schroeder, a debate expert at Northeastern University.

“So you’re thinking not just about the election at hand,” Schroeder said, “but what will happen in four years. Will I be a presidential candidate? … You want to serve your running mate as best as possible, but you’re also looking out for No. 1.”
