  • Terror experts say Bangladesh cafe attack likely ISIS

    Boston Herald - 07/05/2016

Terrorists descended upon a restaurant in the diplomatic zone in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka yesterday, taking dozens of hostages and killing two police, in the latest attack that security experts say is likely ISIS — or an equally deadly offshoot.

If indeed ISIS is responsible for the attack, it would further shroud the group’s end-game intentions in mystery, according to a security expert.

“Most terrorist groups are much more concerned with winning over public opinion in order to gain legitimacy,” said Northeastern University professor and terrorism expert Max Abrahms. “The Islamic State is interested in branding itself as the most extreme group possible, which is a very short-sighted strategy.”
