Senior projects by two teams of civil engineering students at Northeastern University could help the town find creative responses to traffic woes on Route 106. “It’s a great opportunity for both the town and the students. We think it’s an excellent way to get input from some great young minds,” Town Manager William R. Ross said in an interview. Daniel M. Dulaski, a Mansfield resident and a civil engineering professor at Northeastern, said in an interview that he has been overseeing groups of students working with several communities and has found that the students come up with progressive ideas and concrete plans. “I treat them like small consulting teams,” Dulaski said. About a dozen students will study two sections of Route 106, one from Forbes Boulevard to the east side of the commuter rail station, and the other from the east side of the Route 106 underpass to North Main Street, Oakland Street, and Francis Avenue. Dulaski said he hopes the two groups can present their findings to selectmen in April.
