  • Renewal of terrorism insurance benefits businesses, individuals, experts say

If you invest in real estate or own a business, you have good reasons to be happy about the TRIA renewal. But does the average American have a stake in it?

Yes, says Sean Burke, the executive director of the Center for Resilience Studies at Northeastern University. “If investors and businesses could not access insurance against acts of terrorism … the concern is that the financing to rebuild in the wake of a terrorist attack or to build in areas where there is the perception attacks could occur would dry up,” Burke says.

“The worry is that a ripple effect through the economy could lead to a slowdown in creation of new jobs or even a loss of jobs,” he says.
