  • Real Estate: Huntington Ave. Y gets a face lift

    The Huntington Avenue YMCA’s brick and iron facade and its familiar rooftop sign near Symphony Hall will remain unchanged.

    But simultaneous projects totaling more than $100 million by the YMCA of Greater Boston and Northeastern University are about to transform the landscape on that section of Huntington Avenue. As the YMCA updates its facilities, the university’s new 17-story residence hall is under construction behind the historic Y building.

    Changes to the 100-year-old Y will include a $30 million renovation of the 67,225-square-foot facility, making it more flexible, and energy efficient while preserving much of its historic character. The project commenced …
