    A pipe bomb is a very common type of IED (improvised explosive device) and a pressure-cooker bomb is just a larger version.

    Usually it’s a closed galvanized steel or PVC pipe, and has three primary components: the pipe itself, which is the housing of the IED; the explosive filler, and something to initiate it — some type of fuse or timing device, like a cellphone.
