Olympic foes not going for gold

Philip D’Agati, a Northeastern University associate professor who has studied the Olympics’ effect on European cities, said opposition groups historically haven’t been good at raising money, even when public opinion seems to break their way.
“It’s easy to cautiously say no to something in an opinion poll,” D’Agati said. “It’s not likely to result in people putting money down on that until there’s a strong message coming from that organization.”
