Northeastern University raised $63.3 million in new donations and pledges since May, the school said Wednesday in a statement.
The school’s annual fundraising average has tripled since 2005, according to the statement. Last fiscal year, a total of 13,103 donors made gifts — a record for the university.
“Northeastern has a bold vision for the future and the philanthropic support of our community and friends give life to this vision,” Joseph E. Aoun, president of Northeastern University said in the statement. “Our momentum is unprecedented. It is our goal to strengthen it for generations to come by remaining at the leading edge of research and continuing to attract world-class students and faculty.
In May, the school announced that it is aiming to raise $1 billion by 2017. The university said in a statement that it hopes to fundraise $500 million in philanthropic donations and $500 million through industry and government partnerships.
