Just because he’s smiling doesn’t mean he’s not sexist

“Benevolent sexism is this belief about how women are pure and wonderful but at the same time, they are weak and very incompetent,” says Jin X. Goh, co-author of the study and a psychology Ph.D. candidate at Northeastern University. “On the surface it’s great, but the underlying intention is that women are inferior.”
In the small study, published by the journal Sex Roles, 27 pairs of male and female undergraduates played a trivia game with each other and then had a brief conversation.
