  • Health care equity proves painfully elusive

    Boston Globe - 05/09/2017

I watched C-Span while the House passed its overhaul of the Affordable Care Act last week, says Jean Flatley McGuire, professor of practice in the health sciences department at Northeastern University. There are many terrible sequelae (to borrow a health care term) from this act.

The first, of course, is the devastating potential loss of insurance for millions of Americans; the second is the duplicity in the purported protections for those with preexisting conditions; and the third is the rejection of a deeply held principle of community rating as the basis for our health insurance structure.
