  • Blizzard to throw blanket over Bay State economy

    Boston Herald - 01/27/2015

The monstrous blizzard that’s expected to bring much of the state to a standstill for the next two days will send a ripple effect through the economy, affecting everything from workers’ wages and business revenue to municipal budgets and the state deficit.

The storm could create a “chain-reaction of potential negativity,” said Oscar Brookins, a Northeastern University economics professor. “The fact that the storm is coming at the beginning of the week, as opposed to the weekend … will make a big difference. People will have less dollars to spend, and the income of businesses will be down as a consequence.”
