  • Alarming claims vs. high school hockey coaches

    Boston Herald - 01/26/2018

Meanwhile, one sports researcher said that if true, the allegations of withholding food and water as punishment for poor performances is an “egregious” and ineffective way of coaching.

But there have been “millions” of variations of the type of behavior alleged against three Andover High School hockey coaches, said Dan Lebowitz of Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society.

“It’s something that years ago might have been expected as the norm,” Lebowitz said.

Today, however, punishing athletes by holding back food and water is “so abnormal,” he said. “It’s egregious behavior.”
