Students share the impact of their service-learning experiences

Varsha Ramsumair said she teared up during her final visit with the Boston elementary school students she’d been mentoring this semester through a service-learning course called “Human Services Professions.” Ramsumair was one of more than 200 students who presented at the Fall 2016 Service-Learning Expo last week.

Northeastern senior named Schwarzman Scholar

In her senior year at Northeastern Madeline Seibert did a co-op in China, where she led an independent study documenting food losses and waste through Chinese supply chains. Now, with the support of her Schwarzman Scholarship, Seibert will continue this work through a yearlong master’s program at the Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Student’s reporting part of award-winning Rio Olympics coverage on evictions

Graduate student Giulia Afiune, a native of Brazil, was part of a multimedia journalism project this summer that told the stories of families evicted due to Rio Olympics construction. This fall, that project won a prestigious national journalism award in her home country.

Nolan Tesis was one of six students nationwide to be selected for the 2016 Arcus Fellowship, a program that supports LGBTQ leaders and their initiatives. Tesis, who is dedicated to advancing the causes of the LGBTQ community, is hosting a Transgender Day of Remembrance on Saturday.
