Journalism grad returns to Northeastern to train next generation of digital storytellers

Meg Heckman spent more than 10 years working at a Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper in New Hampshire. But her drive to train the next generation of journalists to excel in the digital age compelled her to seek out a career in higher education. She landed at Northeastern this fall, joining the faculty in the School of Journalism’s Media Innovation program.

Journalism student chronicles public editor position through the years

Earlier this summer, The New York Times eliminated its public editor position. Without knowing it, Northeastern journalism student Andrew Robinson had begun what would become an essential history of the position—a story that would eventually be published in the Columbia Journalism Review. From co-op to sergeant, NUPD's Love leads by example

Timothy Love started his career at NUPD as a co-op student in 2008. Last month, he was promoted to patrol sergeant, a role in which he takes great pride. “I used to be this quiet, skinny-looking student,” Love says. “Now I’m out trying to make the campus safe, trying to engage with the community, and that’s something I’m really proud of.”

Journalist finds ‘striking’ stories, inspiring people on global reporting trip

Aneri Pattani recently wrapped up a weeklong reporting trip in Liberia with New York Times Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nicholas Kristof. “I see journalism as a way to learn more every day and try to work on my own ignorance and understand the different ways people live,” she says. “In a lot of ways that’s what I took away from this trip, but on an international scale.”

Alumnus’ new app a ‘one-stop-shop’ for pet owners

The Fetch My Pet app allows users to upload profiles of their pets, store medical records, and report their pets as missing. It’s a one-stop-shop for finding groomers and veterinarians, or for buying healthy treats and snazzy dog wear. “It’s a way to manage every aspect of your pet’s life,” says alumnus and co-founder Adam Jackowitz.

Alumnus sells e-commerce startup to Amazon for $650M

Northeastern alumnus Ronaldo Mouchawar launched Souq.com in 2005 and built the startup into one of the Middle East’s most recognized online retailers. Last week, Amazon agreed to acquire Mouchawar’s company for at least $650 million.
