Former Northeastern goalie Devon Levi will make his NHL debut for the Buffalo Sabres at 7 p.m. Friday against the New York Rangers.

“It’s exciting,” Levi told NHL.com. “I’ve been dreaming of this moment my whole life, so for it to finally be here, it’s a big deal. I’m really excited.”

Earlier this month, the 6-foot, 184-pound Levi signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Sabres, ending his historic Northeastern career and beginning a new one as a professional athlete in the NHL.

Levi was named the Hockey East player of the year and one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, college hockey’s top individual honor. He was previously named a Hockey East first-team all-star, conference goalie of the year and a finalist for the Mike Richter Award, given to the nation’s best goalie.

A native of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, Levi finished his two seasons in a Huskies uniform with a 38-22-6 record, a Beanpot title, Hockey East regular-season championship and NCAA tournament appearance.

This season, Levi was 17-12-5 (14-6-3 in Hockey East), while posting an NCAA-leading .933 save percentage and six shutouts. Levi’s 16 career shutouts is a Northeastern record.

Levi was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft, but his rights were traded to the Sabres in 2021. That year, he helped Canada win a silver medal at the World Junior Championship while earning tournament MVP honors. In 2022, Levi participated in the Olympics in Beijing.

Levi is the third Northeastern player to sign with an NHL team this week. Senior captain Aidan McDonough signed a two-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks on Monday, while senior defenseman Jayden Struble signed with the Montréal Canadiens on Tuesday.
