Northeastern women’s hockey continues hot streak with ninth straight win

A furious third period comeback against New Hampshire Sunday propelled the women’s hockey team at Northeastern to its ninth straight victory and catapulted the Huskies to fifth in the national rankings.

The achievement marks the first time in three years that the program has been ranked in the top five in the USCHO.com poll. Northeastern (10-1-1) is also ranked fifth in the nation in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine College Hockey Poll.

Northeastern forwards Chloe Aurard and Alina Mueller, who lead the nation in scoring among freshmen this season, also earned awards this week. Aurard, who scored six points last week, was named Hockey East Player of the Week. Mueller, who scored five points last week, earned the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week.

The women’s hockey team will play two games at Maine (7-5) this weekend, on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Women’s rugby on a roll

Four years ago, the Northeastern women’s club rugby team didn’t win a game in the fall season. Now the team is going to nationals. Northeastern defeated Navy 29-0 in a wildcard game this past weekend to advance to 2018 fall Division 1 college championship. The team will face Davenport University, which won the fall championship last year, in the quarterfinal round on Saturday.

“It’s honestly the most unbelievable feeling,” said Gabriella Gil, who is a senior and president of Northeastern’s club team. “This wasn’t just my vision, but each and every senior wanted to see this happen. When we beat Navy, there wasn’t a person without tears in their eyes.”

Three-point barrage helps men’s basketball secure first win

The men’s basketball team beat Harvard 81-71 on Friday night, evening the Huskies’ record at 1-1. Junior guard Jordan Roland made seven of 10 three-pointers en route to setting a career high with 35 points.

Men’s hockey nets two comeback wins

The Northeastern men’s hockey team twice erased third-period deficits to win a pair of home games. The Huskies defeated Connecticut 3-2 on Friday night and UMass Lowell 5-4 in overtime on Saturday night. Northeastern moved up in the USCHO.com rankings from 15th last week to 13th this week.

Junior guard’s first double-double leads women’s basketball to victory

The Northeastern women’s basketball team won its first two games of the season. The Huskies defeated Boston University, 81-51, on Friday. On Sunday, the team beat Fordham, 58-54, riding junior guard Ayanna Dublin’s 14 points and 11 rebounds. Dublin’s first career double-double included a layup in the closing minutes that put the Huskies ahead for good.

Men’s cross-country team makes program history

The Northeastern cross-country team raced in the 2018 NCAA Northeast Regionals on Friday. The men’s team finished in 10th place, its highest finish in program history and the first time three runners on the men’s team finished in the top 30. The women’s team placed 17th.

Men’s and women’s powerlifting clubs win regional competition

The men’s and women’s powerlifting clubs at Northeastern placed first in the 2018 USA Powerlifting Raw Collegiate Cup on Sunday, besting competition from other universities in the Northeast region.
