The annual Beanpot tournament, theater productions, Black History Month, and Mardi Gras are among the events to catch on and around campus this month. Here’s a rundown.

The Beanpot

OK, the Beanpot isn’t technically on campus, but it’s the Beanpot!

The men’s hockey team will face Boston College in the first round of the Beanpot, on Monday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. at TD Garden. The No. 11 Huskies are ranked highest among the four Beanpot teams and are looking to break their 30-year title drought. The championship and consolation games are on Feb. 12 at TD Garden.

The women’s Beanpot will be held at Boston College’s Kelly Rink. The Huskies will face No. 3 BC in the first round, at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6. The consolation and championship games are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13. Here’s more information about the schedule and tickets.

National Engineers Week

The College of Engineering will celebrate National Engineers Week from Feb. 17 to 23 with a range of engaging activities on campus. Events include:

• Distinguished speakers from academia and industry
• An expo on Friday, Feb. 23 for families, parents, and children to learn about engineering through a variety of activities, experiments, and demonstrations
• A presentation and Q&A on Tuesday, Feb. 20 on the new pedestrian footbridge project for the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex
• A PhD research expo on Wednesday, Feb. 21
• A robotics showcase on Friday, Feb. 24 highlighting faculty and student research

Mardi Gras

Northeastern will host its 17th annual Mardi Gras celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 13, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event brings a taste of authentic New Orleans flavor to campus with games, prizes, live jazz music, lots of food, and of course, beads. Levine Marketplace will close that day at 2 p.m. to prepare for the celebration. More information is available here.

Black History Month

Northeastern is hosting its annual celebration of Black History Month with a range of events, including a panel discussion on Feb. 7 designed to inform students interested in working in social services; a talk with activist and writer Shaun King on Feb. 9; a faculty and staff recognition luncheon on Feb. 21; and an event on Feb. 23 honoring black veterans of the Vietnam War. Carnevale

The Office of Global Services is hosting the university’s annual Carnevale celebration, which runs all month and extends into March. The kickoff is Feb. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Curry Student Center Indoor Quad and features dance performances, games, food, and prizes. Other events include workshops, dancing, language learning, and a Beyond Borders event highlighting life and culture in Argentina. Most events require registration.

Off-Campus Apartment Fair

Student Affairs is hosting a fair on Wednesday, Feb. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Curry Student Center Indoor Quad where students interested in living off-campus can learn more about finding a realtor, new apartment listings, and choosing the best apartment.

Theater productions

The Department of Theatre’s 2017-18 season continues this month with two productions. The first, “The Exception and the Rule,” runs from Feb. 6 to 10 in the Ryder Theatre Lab, and tickets are still available for some shows.

The second, “The Glass Menagerie,” runs from Feb. 20 to 25 in the Studio Theatre. Department chair Scott Edmiston directs the renowned play written by Tennessee Williams. Tickets are available via myNortheastern.

Athletics

Men’s basketball will host three more home games at Matthews Arena this month: Drexel on Thursday, Feb. 15, William and Mary on Saturday, Feb. 17, and Towson on Thursday, Feb. 22. Women’s basketball has two more home games this month—James Madison on Friday, Feb. 9 and Towson on Friday, Feb 16 in its annual Play4Kay Night in support of breast cancer awareness and research. All proceeds from the Feb. 16 game will support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

 Men’s hockey will also host Connecticut on Friday, Feb. 9 for Olympic Night and New Hampshire on Friday, Feb. 23 on Senior Night. Women’s hockey will host one more home game this month: Vermont on Friday, Feb. 16.

Data Fest

Snell Library has organized its first-ever Data Fest, running this month to raise awareness about data-related issues and showcase the expertise and resources the library offers the Northeastern community. Events include a citizen science health hackathon on Feb. 13 and an introduction to Unix Shell workshop on Feb. 22. Some events are targeted to specific audiences; see the full schedule for more details. Data Fest is being held to coincide with the Digital Library Federation’s Endangered Data Week and the global Love Data Week.
