The Curry Student Center Indoor Quad and Ballroom will be humming with health awareness activities on Wednesday for Northeastern’s 11th annual Bouvé Health Fair and Flu Shot Clinic.

At the popular event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., members of the university community can receive free flu shots as well as free blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose health screenings. Those looking to receive flu shots are encouraged to arrive earlier in the day.

“It is vital that people receive their flu vaccines to maintain a healthy community as the flu virus changes every season,” said Huiling Zhao, a third-year pharmacy student and the health fair’s lead organizer. “Students especially should get their flu shots since they live in close quarters.”

Zhao noted that the fair’s theme this year is “our health is our greatest wealth.”

The event also features yoga and Zumba classes, free food, and giveaways. Student groups will be managing information tables on a variety of health topics, including diabetes, exercise and nutrition, smoking cessation, alcohol awareness, and mental health. New this year is that another student organization, the Northeastern University Emergency Medical Services, will give CPR demonstrations at the fair.

Also part of the health fair is a two-day blood drive on Wednesday and Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. People interested in giving blood must sign up for an appointment, and anyone with questions about eligibility can contact 617.632.3206 or blooddonor@partners.org. Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute are sponsoring the blood drive.

Northeastern’s chapter of Phi Delta Chi, the professional fraternity of pharmacy, is organizing the health fair in collaboration with the School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy, and the physician assistant program. The chapter has also been working closely with other student groups and University Health and Counseling Services to coordinate the event.
