NUPD and Northeastern Crossing have teamed up to host Halloween for more than two dozen kids in the community.

As part of the fun event, 2- to 4-year-olds from the ABCD Head Start program and the Live and Learn Center at St. Cyprian’s Church will don costumes and go trick-or-treating at 10 Northeastern offices, centers, and departments on Tuesday afternoon.

The program will begin at 2 p.m. at Northeastern Crossing, a venue dedicated to fostering connections between city residents and the university community. Subsequent stops will include Snell Library, the Latinx Student Cultural Center, and the John D. O’Bryant African American Institute.

The children will be chaperoned by their daycare providers and NUPD officers. NUPD officer Anika Crutchfield, who helped to organize the program, said its goal is to reinforce the positive relationship between Northeastern and the surrounding community by providing a fun opportunity for children to go trick-or-treating.

At each stop, students and staff will greet the children and give out a variety of sweet treats. Sara Rivera, assistant director of the Latinx Student Cultural Center, jumped at the opportunity to participate. “The LSCC chose to participate in this event because it’s nostalgic,” said Rivera, who will be doling out lollipops, chocolate, and other candy, “and because we do not have the opportunity to interact with kids this young in our day-to-day work.”

Jennie Robbiano, Snell Library’s marketing and events assistant, agreed. “We thought it would be fun,” she said. “There was a lot of excitement from library staff about doing this. Everyone likes Halloween.”
