Back from break: Here’s what you need to know

“I Am Here” registration for spring semester classes begins on Thursday. Here’s a rundown of other important dates to remember as well as some of the big events happening on campus over the next two weeks.

‘I Am Here’

Thursday, Jan. 5 is the first day of “I Am Here” registration for spring classes. Tuesday, Jan. 10 is the last day of online “I Am Here” reg­is­tra­tion for spring classes. Spring class registrations will be dropped on Tuesday at 4 p.m. for students who do not participate in “I Am Here” or clear registration holds.

Jan. 18 is the last day for undergraduate students to add classes to their spring semester schedules through the myNEU portal.

Jan. 23 is the last day for graduate students to add classes to their full-semester and first-half spring schedules through the myNEU portal.

Jan. 30 is the last day for undergraduate and graduate students to drop a full-semester spring class without a “W” grade.

Campus recreation

Renovations to improve the user experience at the Marino Center—including repaired lockers and resurfaced gym floors—are now complete. The facility is open daily from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Registration for spring semester intramurals—including indoor soccer, flag football, and extreme dodge ball—opens on Jan. 9 at 9 a.m. and closes on Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. Games begin on Jan. 20. Space is limited for all leagues. Registrations are taken on a first come, first served basis.

Welcome, new students!

 A wide-ranging series of “Welcome Week” events will help to celebrate the arrival of new students on campus.

On Monday, Jan. 9, the Resident Student Association will host the Spring ResHall Carnival in the Curry Student Center Indoor Quad. The event, which will include carnival games and snacks, will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Center of Community Service will host a light lunch dedicated to the many ways in which students can get involved in their community. The event will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in 90 Snell Library.

On Wednesday, Jan.11, the Global Experience Office will host a discussion of the many global opportunities available to students, including co-op, study abroad, and Dialogue of Civilizations programs. The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in 342-344 Curry Student Center.

Other big events

Northeastern is home to more than 400 student clubs and organizations. The Winter Involvement Fair—where rep­re­sen­ta­tives from many of these clubs and organizations set up shop to high­light their groups and engage poten­tial newcomers—will be held in the Indoor Quad on Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

As part of Frozen Fenway 2017, the men’s hockey team will take on the University of New Hampshire at Fenway Park on Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through Alumni Relations or the Red Sox. If you would like to walk over to Fenway with a group, plan to meet in the lobby of Ell Hall at 7 p.m.

Northeastern’s annual cel­e­bra­tion of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. will take place on Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. in Blackman Auditorium. Hamilton star Renée Elise Goldsberry will deliver the keynote address.

Where and when to eat

All on-​​campus eateries will return to their reg­ular hours of oper­a­tion on Monday, Jan. 9. Visit North­eastern Dining’s website for a com­plete schedule.

Library resources

Uni­ver­sity Libraries will be hosting a “how-to” information session in the Snell Library lobby throughout the week of Jan. 9. The event will show attendees how to navigate services online and in the library, including the Dig­ital Media Com­mons and 3-​​D Printing Studio.

The infor­ma­tion table will be open during the fol­lowing days and times: Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon; Jan. 10, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Jan. 11, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Jan. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Jan. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon.
