Cool ways to spend spring break in Boston

For students staying in Boston for spring break, we’ve compiled a list of fun activities to try and places to go during the week off as well as a rundown of what campus services will remain open.

Southie tradition

The unofficial start of spring in Boston is when Sullivan’s on Castle Island re-opens for business after taking the winter off. A South Boston institution, Sullivan’s last month kicked off its 65th season of serving burgers, seafood sandwiches, and the particularly popular hot dogs.

Head down to this water-side establishment at 2080 Day Blvd. to get your grub on.

Prepare for spring activities

With such a light winter, by Boston standards, you’ll be able to partake in your favorite spring and summer activities even sooner than usual.

Visit McGolf driving range, located at 150 Bridge St., in Dedham, Massachusetts, to dust the cobwebs off your golf swing (there are some covered driving bays, too). Do some outdoor rock climbing at Rock Spot Climbing’s new location at 30 Old Colony Ave. in South Boston. Or shift your running routine from the treadmill to the Charles River Esplanade.

Keep on learning

Just because classes aren’t in session doesn’t mean you should stop learning.

The Museum of Fine Arts, located just a few steps from campus, hosts a free “drawing in the galleries” workshop every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. where you can sketch live models or pieces in the museum’s collection. What’s more, museum admission is free Wednesday nights.

Experience the historical event that launched a revolution at the Boston Tea Party Museum, located at 306 Congress St. Learn about the people and events that led up to the American Revolution and literally throw “tea” into Boston Harbor.

The Museum of Science will have a special tribute to David Bowie on Thursday, March 10, at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9 p.m. in the Charles Hayden Planetarium.

Spend time outside

Meteorologists are forecasting nice weather for next week, so take advantage of the sunshine to explore the city by foot. Walk the Commonwealth Avenue Mall to the Public Gardens and Boston Common. Take a stroll down the Harbor Walk. Or find one of Boston’s many restaurants with outdoor seating and enjoy an open-air meal while you people watch.
