On the clock with the Entrepreneurs Club

April 8, 2012 – Students, faculty and staff checked out over 20 student ventures at the Spring 2013 Demo Day: A Celebration of Northeastern University Student Innovation, which was organized by the Entrepreneurs Club, the IDEA Venture Accelerator, the Northeastern Center for Entrepreneurship Education and the D’Amore-McKim School of Business.

At the top of the Entrepreneurs Club’s website there’s a header reading “Next Big Event In:” followed by a ticker displaying the exact number of days, hours, minutes, and seconds until, well, the club’s next big event.

Judging by the club’s programming slate this fall, that ticker is going to be very busy ticking, resetting, and then ticking some more.

“Our team has spent the better part of this summer turning the club upside down, shaking out the rusted pieces, and putting it back together again,” said Ben Bungert, DMSB’16, president of the Entrepreneurs Club. “‘Entrepreneurship and innovation’ are such ambiguous terms, leaving us with a lot of wiggle room in how we interpret their meaning. So we’re trying some new things this year, and hopefully it will resonate with the Northeastern community.”

Here’s a rundown of the club’s upcoming events and programs this semester, which have been designed to promote entrepreneurship and provide opportunities for students to work with startups and even launch their own ventures.

Weekly meetings and speaker series – begins Tuesday, Sept. 15, 7-8 p.m.
The Entrepreneurs Club will hold its first meeting of the fall semester Tuesday night, when MassChallenge founder and CEO John Harthorne will discuss what it takes to be part of the annual $1 million global startup competition and accelerator program. Several members of the Northeastern community have ventures that were named MassChallenge finalists this year and one of them, Dash founder Ian Carlson, will also speak about what it’s like going through the program.

The club’s weekly meetings, which feature this speaker series, are held on Tuesday nights throughout the semester in Behrakis 310. The events are open to students of all majors, alumni, and members of the Northeastern community.

Entrepreneurship Kickoff – Monday, Sept. 21, 5-7 p.m.
Attention new and returning students interested in entrepreneurship—this event is your one-stop-shop to learn about the various student groups and university resources you can take advantage of this semester and beyond. The Northeastern Entrepreneurs Club has organized this first-time event, which will be held in the Snell Quad, where you can meet representatives from many student-led and university-run programs.

HeadStart Pitch Day – Wednesday, Sept. 23, 7-9 p.m.
The club’s HeadStart program—formerly the Entrepreneurship Immersion Program—pairs students with local startups from IDEA, the university’s student-run venture accelerator. For one semester, the burgeoning entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to attend workshops and learn from and work side-by-side with the movers and shakers behind these ventures. HeadStart Pitch Day kicks off the program, giving students the chance to introduce themselves to representatives of these startups—many of which are founded by Northeastern students and alumni.

Husky Startup Challenge – begins Oct. 3, 12-4 p.m.
Open to all Northeastern students and alumni, the Husky Startup Challenge supports students who want to turn their bold ideas into companies. The semesterlong program includes a series of boot camps and networking events, and at the end of the semester participants’ business ideas are showcased at Demo Day. Attend the Entrepreneurship Kickoff event or contact huskystartupchallenge@gmail.com to learn how to get involved this semester.
