Northeastern to host vocational rehab for veterans

Northeastern’s Veteran and Military Services office will host a free vocational rehabilitation and employment information session for veterans on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Alumni Center.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ VR&E program is designed to help eligible veterans and active duty servicemembers find employment. Services include vocational counseling, training, and career placement.

The info session is open to all Massachusetts veterans and will be led by a Boston-based VR&E counselor, who will answer all “Voc Rehab” questions. To register for the event, please click here.

“We want to help educate and empower the entire Massachusetts veteran community,” said Andy McCarty, an Air Force veteran and the director of veteran and military services at Northeastern. “I can’t possibly overstate how important meaningful employment is for a veteran’s successful transition out of the military.”

The info session dovetails with Northeastern’s longstanding commitment to supporting the nation’s veterans and servicemembers. The majority of the university’s student veterans participate in the federal government’s Yellow Ribbon Program, which operates in conjunction with the Department of Veterans Affairs and currently provides scholarships to more than 220 Northeastern student veterans who have served in the post-9/11 era.
