February’s can’t-miss campus events

Here’s a rundown of some exciting events taking place at Northeastern this month that you won’t want to miss.

Spring Career Fair 2015

The annual Spring Career Fair will be held on Thursday, Feb. 5 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Cabot Cage. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with employers who are looking to fill full-time, co-op, and internship positions, including nonprofit and government agencies; get a free LinkedIn profile photo; and receive employer giveaways.

20th annual ISSI Carnevale kickoff

The International Student and Scholar Institute’s Carnevale, Northeastern’s annual cultural celebration, kicks off on Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Curry Student Center Ballroom. The entire Northeastern community is invited to sample international cuisines, meet people from around the world, and learn about different cultures.

Other Carnevale events taking place over the next couple of weeks include an ice carving competition, a fashion snow, and a surprise speaker. Click here for a complete schedule.

columbinus

The Department of Theatre’s first production of the spring semester is columbinus, a multimedia docudrama that examines the social pressures of high school in America and the challenges students face on a daily basis. The production is influenced by the deadly shootings at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999. The play opens on Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. in the Studio Theatre.

College of Science co-op expo

At this annual event, College of Science undergraduate students will present a scientific poster reflecting on a previous co-op. Only College of Science students can sign up to present at the expo, which is set for Feb. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Curry Student Center. The entire Northeastern community, including faculty, staff, and current and prospective students, is encouraged to attend to learn more about these co-op experiences.

The students who give the best presentations will win prizes, and the top student presentation will win a $200 Amazon gift card.

Interfaith Harmony Week

This weeklong event that begins Tuesday gives the Northeastern community the chance to learn about and celebrate religious and spiritual diversity on campus. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service, the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, and ISSI.

The week’s featured event is on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Raytheon Amphitheater, and will include a keynote address and reception with three interfaith leadership fellows: Rabbi Or Rose, Jennifer Peace, and professor Celene Ayat Ibrahim-Lizzio of the Andover Newton and Hebrew College.

Post Ferguson Panel: Finding Justice in the Aftermath of Ferguson

The Northeastern University School of Law on Monday, Feb. 9 will convene a distinguished panel of experts to discuss laws and polices that should be in place after the grand jury decision to not indict Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown last year. Margaret Burnham, a Northeastern University professor of law and director of the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project, will moderate the discussion, which will be held at 65 Forsyth St. at 5:30 p.m.

14th annual Mardi Gras celebration

Celebrate Mardi Gras on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Stetson East Dining Hall. The party will include contests, prizes, New Orleans specialties, a live jazz band, and—of course—Mardi Gras beads. NU Dining and the Office of Student Affairs will sponsor this event.
