‘Real World’ star hits the airwaves in Boston

As one of the most prolific scorers to ever don the red and black for the women’s basketball team, Ashlee Feldman is no stranger to attention. The Collingswood, N.J. native was recruited in 2005 on a full basketball scholarship and was quick to make a name for herself. In her fourth year as a guard, Feldman made the record books, by becoming the 14th player in Husky history to reach 1,000 career points.

“I tell everyone that going to Northeastern was probably the best decision I’ve ever made,” said Feldman, who graduated in 2009 with a bachelor of arts in communication studies.

But being captain of a Division 1 basketball team and 11th on the all-time leading scorers list at Northeastern was not enough for Feldman. Between games and around-the-clock training, she became a commentator for men’s basketball, which introduced her to radio broadcasting. “It was awesome because I got some real radio experience that helped me in turn get my job when I was on TV,” Feldman said.

Shortly after graduation, she packed her bags for New Orleans and joined the 24th cast of MTV’s hit reality TV show The Real World. While living in The Big Easy, Feldman pursued her career goals and approached local radio station, WWOZ, which gave her a job.

But the tall basketball girl from Boston, as she was warmly known in New Orleans, never let the popularity get to her head.

Of the experience as a whole, Feldman is humbled. “I never thought that going on the show was going to make me an instant celebrity,” said Feldman. “I knew in the back of my brain where I wanted to end up and “Real World” was a stepping stone. I was lucky and blessed with this opportunity, and I couldn’t wait to take advantage of it.”

After a stint at KFNS in St. Louis, Feldman recently made her return to Boston to co-host JAM’N 94.5 FM’s morning show, “Ramiro’s House,” which airs from 6-10 a.m. She strives to be the quintessential female voice of the radio show and quickly learned that no topic is off limits, from wedding rings to Tiger Woods. “If it’s topical and fresh, we like to talk about it,” she said.

As for now, Feldman is here to stay. “I couldn’t be happier with the guys I work with,” she said. “I’m really happy with where I am right now and I would love to make JAM’N my home for a long time.”
