December 12, 2012 – A close-up of existing (first three items) surgical mesh securing devices and a mockup of the helical device (right) that senior mechanical engineering students Charles O’€™Connell, David Stone, Andrew Edgerly, Charles Sidoti and Joseph Aaron designed to be implanted using a reusable instrument with a novel rotary drive that provides tactile feedback to surgeons performing laparoscopic surgery. The instrument is one of two winning designs in this semester’s Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Capstone projects
