Red-hot Huskies look to maintain momentum vs. Hofstra

Matthews Arena will be buzzing when the men’s basketball team hosts Hofstra on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The red-hot Huskies have won four games in a row and hope to extend their Colonial Athletic Association-best 4-0 record to remain the conference’s top team.

Tickets are available through the myTickets portal on myNEU. The game is free for Northeastern faculty and staff, and the first 500 students through the doors will receive a free t-shirt. “The Spot,” the popular fan gathering area on the arena floor level, will open one hour prior to tip-off.

Fans unable to attend the game can catch all the action live in high definition at GoNU.com/xstream. WRBB radio also will carry the game live on 104.9 FM and WRBBsports.com.

The Huskies (9-7, 4-0 CAA) have beaten all four opponents they have faced since opening conference play on Jan. 3. The team’s balanced offensive attack has been bolstered by the recent return of Jonathan Lee, a dynamic senior guard who has averaged 13 points per game in seven contests.

On a conference call on Tuesday, head coach Bill Coen noted that the starting five’s strong play has been backed up by the performance of role players. The team has also featured a different top scorer in four of its last five games.

Coen claimed his 100th career victory as Northeastern’s head basketball coach on Saturday when the Huskies defeated Towson 70-59.

Several of Northeastern’s games this season have featured buzzer-beating shots, adding another level of excitement to the team’s resurgent play. Starting with Wednesday night’s game against Hofstra, the Huskies will play five of its next six games at home. After hitting the road to face Delaware on Saturday, Northeastern will take on William & Mary (Jan. 23), George Mason (Jan. 27), Georgia State (Jan. 30), and Drexel (Feb. 2) in the friendly confines of its historic arena.
