Men’s hockey skates into national rankings

With its thrilling 3-1 victory over Boston College last weekend, the men’s hockey team did more than just knock off the nation’s top-ranked team. It also vaulted into the national rankings.

The Huskies found themselves ranked No. 14 this week by U.S. College Hockey Online, the first time Northeastern has been nationally ranked in the Top 20 in more than three years. The team is also 2-0 for the first time since 1999 after beating two ranked opponents: BC, which fell to No.3 as a result of the loss, and No. 19 Merrimack, in its season opener.

In other men’s hockey news, Northeastern freshman forward Kevin Roy has been named the Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week. Roy, a 5-foot-10-inch forward from Quebec, netted the game-winning goals in each of the Huskies first two games and also tallied an assist in the season opener.

The men’s hockey team was also named the Hockey East Team of the Week.

Northeastern will face-off against Boston College again on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill. Northeastern students, staff and alumni can purchase tickets at the Ell Hall Box Office on Wednesday between the hours of 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., or by calling the ticket box office at (617) 373-4700.
