Northeastern University to Host Screenings, Panel Discussions during 10th Annual Roxbury Film Festival

Festival runs this week through Sunday, August 3

WHO: Northeastern University will host several events during the 10th Annual Roxbury Film Festival.

WHAT: More than 80 films will be showcased during the festival, and several Hollywood guests are expected to attend, including Ruby Dee (2007 Oscar Award Nominee for Best Supporting Actress in “American Gangster”) and Robert Townsend (who appears in “Of Boys and Men,” which will be shown during the film festival).

WHEN: Below is a list of scheduled festival events that Northeastern will be hosting between Friday, August 1 and Sunday, August 3.

Friday, August 1

5–6 p.m. Belly of the Basin (a documentary short film)

6:30–9 p.m. Mansfield Twelve (a narrative feature) with Mandatory Sentence (an experimental short film)

9:30–11:30 p.m. Who are the Scooby Brothers (a documentary film)

Saturday, August 2

11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Distribution in the Digital Age (a panel discussion)

2–3:30 p.m. Health Disparities in our Community I – a series of short films including: Unnatural Causes: In sickness and in Wealth; REACHBoston 2010; followed by Q&A with filmmakers

3:30–5:30 p.m. Health Disparities in our Community II – a series of short films including: Sharpening Our Oyster Knives: Living with HIV/AIDS Today; Jesus Children of America; Secrets; and Hope, moderated by Sheryl Lee Ralph

6–7:30 p.m. Of Boys and Men (a narrative feature film) followed by Q&A with producers

8–10 p.m. Sister’s Keeper (a narrative feature film) screened with Your Daughter’s First Date (a short film)

Sunday, August 3

1–2 p.m. Short Program II, including the short films: Boxed; The Cambridge Companion; The Donor; In Silent Spaces; Steep; and The Preacher and the Poet

2:15–4:30 p.m. Namibia: The Struggle for Liberation (a narrative feature film)

4:00 p.m. Man Oh Man (a short music film)
