Northeastern University Hosts Performance by Legendary Artist Peggy Seeger

WHO/WHAT:As part of Northeastern’s Women’s Studies lecture series titled “Gender Matters,” legendary activist, singer and songwriter Peggy Seeger will have the audience laughing and singing during her lecture/performance “I Come From Women: Peggy Seeger Sings Traditional and Original Songs.” Seeger is also a visiting scholar in the Department of Music at Northeastern.

During the event, Seeger will perform a mixture of songs written by generations of mothers interested in educating and entertaining their daughters as well as original, social/political songs.

Seeger is considered one of North America’s preeminent revival singers of traditional songs and has been called one of the most authoritative voices in American and English folk by Billboard Magazine.

Performing live for more than 50 years, Seeger has recorded more than 20 solo records and has collaborated with the likes of Tom Paley, Guy Carawan and Ewan MacColl. She has also written music for films, television and radio. A 1971 documentary titled “The Exiles,” profiled her career.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 3 at 4 p.m. The performance will include two 45-minute song/lecture sessions with a short break in between, followed by a reception.
