  • Turning Trash Into Skateboards

    Forbes - 10/20/2013

Procuring the resources needed to make products is a pillar of any business. How much easier would it be if you could simply find them washed up on a beach? Three American entrepreneurs operating in Chile are, apparently, doing just that.

With their fledgling business, Bureo Skateboards, Ben R. Kneppers, David M. Stover and Kevin J. Ahearn are making skateboard using discarded plastics found in Chile and are about to launch a line of sustainable products in the spring of 2014.

The new company received $10,000 in GAP funding fromNortheastern University’s IDEA venture accelerator and another $40,000 from Start Up Chile—an entrepreneurial booster based in Santiago.

Kneppers, an environmental consultant, and Stover, a financial advisor, first met in Sydney, Australia and were roommates while working on separate projects. Both shared love of surfing, skating and general outdoors lifestyle.
