Northeastern toy, clothing drives spread holiday cheer to Boston community

Northeastern University stu­dents, fac­ulty, and staff have orga­nized a number of collection drives for toys, books, clothing, food, and toiletries to help people in need this hol­iday season. Here’s a list of campus drives and how you can contribute:

The Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service is collecting food, clothing and toiletries through Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. and then distributing the goods in care packages to Boston’s homeless on Dec. 5. Please drop off the goods—including bottled water, hand sanitizer, and socks, as well as crackers, deodorant, and gloves—to the center’s office in 203 Ell Hall. The Student Academy of Audiology is organizing a winter hat drive for Friends of Boston’s Homeless. All hats must be dropped off at the Speech-Language and Hearing Center in room 503 of the Behrakis Health Sciences Center by Dec. 4. The Latino/​a Stu­dent Cul­tural Center is part­nering with Hilde­brand Family Self-​​help Center of Cam­bridge, Mass­a­chu­setts, to make holiday wishes come true for more than four dozen children and young adults. To spon­sor a child, con­tact Rosa Torres at 617.373.5845 or LSCC@neu.edu. All gifts must be dropped off at the Latino/​a Stu­dent Cul­tural Center at 104 Forsyth St. by Dec. 11.

The Rus­sell J. Call Children’s Center is sponsoring a drive for new and gently-used baby blankets and coats up to size 5T. The drive will benefit Room to Grow, a local nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of babies born into poverty. The Office of City and Com­mu­nity Affairs is orga­nizing a toy and clothing drive for local fam­i­lies in need. Collection bins are located at 716 Columbus Ave., suite 526, and the dead­line to donate items—new toys and board books as well as new or gently worn coats—is Dec. 18.
