Free flu shots and health screenings

Phi Delta Chi, Northeastern’s fraternity of pharmacy students, is co-hosting the annual Bouvé College of Health Sciences Health Fair and Free Flu Clinic on Wednesday.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Curry Student Center indoor quad. It will feature a blood drive, free cholesterol tests and a flu shot clinic, which will take place in the ballroom. It is supported by the Student Activity Fee and co-sponsored by the Bouvé College of Health Sciences and the Student Government Association.

Northeastern students, faculty and staff are eligible to receive free flu shots; last year more than 800 vaccinations were administered.

“It’s something we’re really encouraging people to do. The flu can impact us on campus and in Boston more than other areas because people live and work so close together,” said Erica Diamantides, a fifth-year pharmacy major who is chairing the annual fair for her fraternity. “It’s very important to get vaccinated.”

She noted that 15 student organizations and seven outside vendors are already registered to participate in the health fair.

“We have a lot of pharmacy, health-science organizations, and other student organizations presenting on topics like the pros and cons of energy drinks and how to avoid the ‘Freshmen 15’ by eating healthy,” Diamantides said.
